Cantina della Volta Lambrusco Brut Rosso

Wine Maker Christian Bellei is, as Vinous said recently, "one of the true Lambrusco di Sorbara masters." A 4th generation Lambrusco maker, Bellei continues his father's innovation of making Lambrusco in the Champagne method - with the secondary fermentation in bottle and sediment disgorged after the secondary fermentation. He works exclusively with the lightest, most feminine, grape of the region - Lambrusco di Sorbara - to create a wine that have plenty of deep, rich, red wine character to go along with enlivening, elegant, fizz.

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Fresh strawberry and red cherry fruit showing a touch of late-season sweetness gets lifted by fine bubbles and notes of sweet spice, blood orange, and tangerine pith. Plenty of depth and flavors intense enough to last all the way through the lip-smacking finish.
Vineyard Notes
In 1981, his great love for the Traditional Method led Christian’s father Giuseppe Bellei to purchase the farm of San Lorenzo Dietro il Monte in Riccò: an estate of 34 hectares, 10 of which given over to grape production.
Winemaker Notes
The vinification of these grapes forms the basis of the creation of sparkling wines in the line known as “Il Mattaglio”, while the Lambrusco di Sorbara grapes are used to produce the renowned Traditional Method Sparking Lambrusco of the Cantina della Volta.
Food Pairing Notes
Great on its own and better still with salami, pizza and spicy foods of all kinds.
